Standalone Sunday June 11th Written in the Scars by Adriana Locke

Standalone Sunday is a feature created by Megan@bookslayereads  where each Sunday a standalone book (not part of a series) that I loved or would recommend will be featured!

I love that meme as it takes little time to do (I’m always running like the real busy bee I am) AND I get to promote a book I really loved. This is the perfect idea for me!

If you want to play, feel free but don’t forget to tag Megan’s blog.

This week I want to feature a tear jercker ladies and gentelmen!

Meet Written in the Scars by Adriana Locke. I dare you to stay dry eyed.

OK it’s official I’m launching the new trend: panda eyes!

THIS WAS ME MOST OF THE TIME:

What is it with the books I’ve read these last days? I’m always ending a sobbing mess with mascara running on my cheeks and nose as red as a clown’s!

This book was recommended by a very good Goodreads friend thinking I could like it. And she was right!

Elin and Ty have been in love for a long time now. They are married but a tragedy hit Ty and he fled his home. Now he is back and wants to win Elin once more. But each has secrets they’re afraid or ashamed to tell the other.

This is in a nutshell the blurb of the book. As simple as it seems, it’s written in a very realistic fashion portraying characters hit by life in sensitive and gut wrenching way. Life is messy. Life is not for the faint of heart. Sometimes you’ll be overjoyed and other days overcome by grief and feelings of loss. This is what Adriana Locke has written about.
Being in a relationship even if you love the other is not always simple. You have to work for it. You have to communicate. You have to trust and rely on each other. Not run when life becomes very difficult or you’ll bear the consequences.

Every character in the book is very well portrayed. They try to live in a little town ruled by the mining company, working a risky job. Because that’s what their fathers did. Because that’s what their grandfathers did. Because they want to feed their families, enjoy some relaxing time with their friends around a bonfire or at the local pool bar.
They could be you they could be me, your friends, your neighbors. They are “common” men and women. No movie star, no famous singer. But some of them are real heroes.
And that’s why it was so easy to relate to these characters.
That’s why every inner struggle, attempt at happiness, fear, hope and despair I felt it in my soul.

I was assaulted by many feelings but the sadness was one of the most potent ones in the last 15 to 20 percent of the book. Damn Cord, why did you have to do that!!!

So if you’re looking for a book about life, about people like you and me, about second chance this is a very good one!
Now I’ll go looking into the others author’s books…
