Review: Dirty by Kylie Scott…. I’m the black sheep here as I expected more.

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she’d marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong-maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?

3 “it had so much potential” stars

Another case of “It’s not you it’s me” maybe?

This was me reading the book :

Not a good sign right?

Now let’s be honest: if it would have been a new author I would have given 4 stars BUT it was Kylie Scott folks! So I expected more as I love the gal and her books in general.

What happens when you find the side characters and their subplots/personal drama more interesting than the MC story?

Well you can’t help thinking that it could have been brilliant but something was missing to make it a really good book.

What I loved:

Lydia. She is a fantastic heroine. Chubby and flawed , real, honest loyal, caring and fun! I want that chick to have my back. It does not hurt she’s got a fantastic right hook (even if it leaves her with scrapped knuckles and all).

The bunch of side characters: Nell, Patt (even if he’s been a little bit of an @hole to Nell), Eric (good looking but trouble maker), Andre and Joe (Nordic God cool as cucumber).
Their subplots were captivating.

So much drama it was better than soap opera. Just grab some pop corn and enjoy. for my UK friends it’s worth the best Eastenders.

The banter in general (I love sarcasm in books and in life).

What I did not love:

Vaughan. Quite embarrassing as he is the main character. He was too sweet, too perfect (except for his bad choice when Lydia and his family were concerned), too attentive, too good in bed (yes that can be a flaw when it comes with too much perfection). He was too smooth for my taste.

So sorry for being the black sheep here but I enjoyed the book, just not as much as I expected.

Would I stop reading Kylie’s books? Of course not!

  1. I loved her Stage Dive series and I was planning to purchase this book. Hufff, thank God, I haven’t. I see your disappointment. We have high expectations to authors we love. We know she/He can do much better. Anyway, fantastic review! ❤️

It was even worse because it came right after finishing the Stage Dive series. I had HUGE expectations, guess what, those were crushed but TWIST redeemed Dirty – loved that book.
