This is Brittany at her finest! All finesse and spot on. Mixing the cute and the sad. Blending ray of sunshine with weeping skies. Perfect balance.
“Our love story was so much more than a romantic tale. Our story was about friendship. About family.”
This story is filled with moments.
Moments to smile tenderly with the meet cute of Eleanor and Grey at a party that bookworm Eleanor did not want to attend. I love that scene at the party. I can see it so clearly. It’s cute funny and just adorable. I was smiling on the train. I loved being in Eleonor’s mind and world. See through her introvert bookish teenage eyes.
Moments to swoon when Grey read all five Harry Potter to have something in common with Eleanor and get to take her on a non-date.
Moments to struggle to breathe and to prevent tears from rolling down your cheeks when Eleanor learnt her mom’s illness.
Moments to live and to take one day at a time because you are “still there”.
And you go for another round.
I swear this book made me feel everything all the time.
Brittainy has just a way with words translating your feelings so perfectly!
“You know those first few minutes after finishing an amazing book? Those moments when you aren’t quite sure what to do with yourself? You simply sat there, staring at the last words, unsure how to move on with your life. How could it be over? How could those characters just fade to black? Your tears hadn’t even dried, and you craved another fix. I loved that feeling.”
Brittainy just described book hangover perfectly!
I loved every single character!
I loved Eleanor. I loved Grey even when he was so hurt that he was cold. I loved Shay and her propensity to compare Eleanor’s life to an episode of The Bachelor.
I loved Lorelai who wore her butterfly wings to sleep and aged five would not hesitate to take down a seventeen years old boy by kicking him in the nuts to protect her big sister Karla (fantastic scene! Memorable moment). I loved moody and snappy Karla who was so lonely and hurt so much that she hid behind a carapace.
I loved how Brittainy C Cherry just built her story. Not in a linear way but with stop and set back. Just to start again. Because life is not linear. How she stayed away from the easy choice to make Grey fall for Eleanor once she left Florida. No because life is not a stand still nor a never ending blissful journey. And you can really love more than once.
I adored Eleanor for her light, her love for life, her love for books, her choice to have a really wild Friday night by staying inside with a god book.
“I couldn’t really imagine what would’ve happened to me if I didn’t have Harry Potter to get me through the past years. If I hadn’t, I might’ve really believed the lies that people said about me. I would’ve thought I wasn’t magical, and that would’ve been a shame. It was sad that so many people went throughout life without knowing they were filled with magic.”
She reminded me of Luna Lovegood somehow.
Thank you Brittainy! You made me dream.
