Title: THE JACK
Author: MK Harkins
Genre: Paranormal Romance
About The Jack:
What matters more to Archer: saving the woman he loves but can never have, protecting humanity, or avoiding a prison sentence that would stretch for eternity?
Archer is a half breed, caught between two opposing heritages – the Jacks, a bloodthirsty race who kills for sport, and the Readers, a docile race trying to save humankind. Two years ago, he betrayed the Readers, though, in a last-minute change of heart, saved them from ultimate destruction. But now he’s all alone, wallowing in unrequited love.
Sadie is an Immortal Seer with a dangerous calling: she must hunt down and destroy the last of the vengeful Jacks. But her quirky humor and gentle spirit make her an unlikely fit for the job.
Archer is drawn to Sadie’s pure, kindhearted nature, rekindling hope he might not have to live a solitary life, but he has no idea the danger he’s in.
When fate forces the mortal enemies to work together, Sadie must determine which side Archer is on, how much of his charm is real, and if she should follow through with her directive: should she kill him or save him?

“Oh no.” Sadie stood stock still and stared at the hotel.
“What is it?” I asked. Her eyes were frantic.
“Everyone get behind the cars! There’s a bomb in the hotel!”
I grabbed Sadie as the last words came from her mouth. We crouched behind the car. Ann and Devon jumped into the Jeep to shield Henry’s body.
I kept my eyes on the hotel when red and blue lights flashed, almost blinding me. A vibration and a loud grumbling started. For a second, it was eerily silent, then the explosion blasted out the windows to both our rooms on the second floor. Muffled wailing of car alarms started all around us in the parking lot. A huge plume of smoke and fire rose from the hotel windows. Shards of glass, wood, metal, and what looked like fabric rained to the ground. The taste of chemical fumes burned my tongue, but we were far enough from the blast zone. We were safe. For now.
Devon jumped out of the car. “What the hell?”
Ann stood with her hand over her mouth. “We’re okay.”
Devon wrapped her in a tight hug.
“I hope no one was hurt or…” Ann looked back at the hotel.
“Were those our rooms?” Lucy choked out. “What about Adam? We didn’t leave him a note. If he took the elevator, we could have missed him. He might have been in the room waiting for us.” She cried into her hands. “If Adam dies, I don’t think—”
Devon tried to calm her. “It was too quick. There wasn’t enough time to get the sandwiches and get back.” His eyes shifted around the parking lot. “We have to get out of sight in case they’re still around.”
“Okay.” Lucy stood a little straighter and wiped her tears. “You’re right. He’ll be okay. He has to be okay.”
Just as she finished her sentence, Adam came around the corner, and stood in front of the hotel, staring at the remnants of the explosion with his back to us.
He must think we’re all dead.
About MK Harkins:
MK has always been a voracious reader. After hitting a dry spell of reading material, she decided to write the kind of book she’d like to read. This resulted in the creation of her debut novel, Intentional. (Award for Best Sweet Romance – eFestival of Words- August 2014)
Unintentional, the second book in the series, is based on the life of one of the characters in Intentional (Cade – an engineer/rock star). Unintentional was written as a stand-alone book.
Breaking Braydon, another stand-alone book, is now available on Amazon.
Taking Tiffany (A spin-off) is available now.
MK is currently working on a paranormal romance – The Reader. Due out 2016.
When she’s not writing novels, she likes to spend her free time traveling the world, splashing in mud puddles (She lives in Seattle, what can she say?), watching movies and reading (!)
