Unpopular Opinion: Fall Back Skyward by Autumn Grey. Review of a story where something is missing to make it really great and ….I don’t know what!

Synopsis

Eleven years ago, I saved her. I loved her. But they took me away from her and locked me up. For two years, all I could think about was her. She consumed me. Took up every room in my head and gave me something to focus on, knowing I would see her soon.Nine years ago, I watched her as she walked down the aisle and into the arms of a man who wasn’t me. My brother. I left my home and never looked back.

Now, I’m staring at seven letters, each envelope stamped with one word in bold, red ink: URGENT.

I have no choice but to go back home. Seeing her will be the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. But in order to reconcile with my past, I have to face my present. Even if the thought of seeing her, knowing that she is out of my reach, kills me.

I have no idea what awaits me, but I can only hope that the demons of my past will finally be buried and put to rest.

**Due to possible triggering descriptions of self-harm, and some sexual situations this book is not recommended for anyone under the age of 17 years old**

Review

⚠️⚠️⚠️Warning: unpopular opinion!

3 “something is missing” stars

IN A TINY NUTSHELL (for once)

First I want to thank the author for gifting me this book!

It was my first Autumn Grey and I was curious to try her story.

I so wanted to love this one!

But sadly the magic did not happen and I don’t know why.
The writing is not bad, the characters are easy to relate to, the plot is good …. it must be a case of “it’s not you, it’s me”.

Or I am in one of my very unusual book funk?🤔

I don’t really know.😭

I loved the part about their past but could not understand his reaction nor why he left for so many years.
I would have loved to read more about her time with Josh. Not only through her eyes.

Dunno ….something is missing to make it great.

Clearly I am in the minority here so don’t let my very very short review discourage you but rather go read other reviews to make up your mind.

Have you read it? I bet you loved it! If not maybe you can help me pinpoint what was missing?

Thanks for reading!

  1. It must be such an odd feeling to not know what exactly didn’t work for you. Do you think you’ll read more of this author or re-read this to find out what went wrong? 😮

  2. Dude, you’ve read Desolate, haven’t you?

I also think the cover is so lovely TRisy!!!

  4. Sometimes we need to tell it how it is, for us. That doesn’t mean everyone will hate the books we don’t like, or love the ones we do. It’s just how it is.

Yes it is like it is indeed Alexandra!

  5. It’s so hard to really be invested when a character’s actions and motivations don’t make sense. 🙂

Exactly! That’s so sad when it happens ….

  10. I’ve had this happen in both ways. Loved a book most people didn’t and didn’t love a book most people did. I guess it really is different strokes for different folks. I do have this on my list. I’ll try to read it soon to see how I feel:)

Oh Laura I hope it will be better for you! I was just under the impression that the author tried too much if it makes sense?

  11. I haven’t read Autumn yet, but I have this entire series on my kindle. And I get where you’re coming from. I don’t think I’ll pock it up now, because we both know, I’m a lot less forgiving than you are lol. Do that thing I told you to do for this supposed funk you’ve found yourself in. 😛

Well Ari now you’ve seen that I’ve heeded your advice LOL

    2. Dude – you’ve read Desolate, haven’t you?

      1. Ooh yes. It was so bad my brain actively blocked it. SORRY
