July Wrap-Up and the Sunday Post 08/01/2021

Today is Sunday time to look back in the rearview mirror and talk about my week . I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted for years by Kimberly@caffeinatedreviewer .

As we are August 1st I’ll double it up with my wrap-up of July

In my private life

Since coming back to Belgium from Normandy last week, the weather has been dreadful except…on Thursday, the day where I went to see Steve McCurry’s exhibition in Antwerp with a friend!

I went to Antwerp by train and it took me twice the usual time because with the floods, the train had to take another route. But it was worth it because Antwerp’s train station is one of the most beautiful in the world!

My friend waited for me at the entrance of the exhibition and we spent nearly three hours  discovering the extraordinary pictures of Steve Mc Curry!

I will leave a collage of some of my favorites below.

After the exhibition we were famished and went to eat on the haven , in a terrace and it was such a wonderful time spent with a friend!

My way home was even longer but as I said, so worth it!

The rest of my week was spent with a visit to the dentist, cleaning the house and clothes after our vacation week and reading!

I also did some reels on Instagram if your are interested, the most recent being my answer to Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s boss as he intends to make Instagram a Tiktok clone…

On the blog

This week I have posted a discussion post and it was such a long time since I had done one of these!

But lately I felt burned out while writing reviews. Uncreative. Like a robot; And I wanted to discuss it with you. It’s to be noted that this post seems to have lifted my curse and the words are flowing again so yay!

July has been a slow reading month with the holiday (we visited all the time and had no room to read, contrary to popular belief 😀 ). I have read 10 books (one of which I can’t talk about yet as the release date is in October but it was my favorite of the month!).

Here are my two favorites:

And the big crush as I love WWII stories and it was perfect before my visits in Normandy…

Before leaving you today, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite songs at the moment, a song that makes me cry every time I listen to it as it reminds me that my dad left me two years and a half ago.

Thanks for reading!

Sophie.

  1. The Antwerp train station is indeed super pretty! That exhibition seems like it was awesome, those pictures look great! Glad to hear you had a great day, even if the way there and home took a long time.

  2. Glad you were able to get out and meet with your friend, Sophie. Judging by the pics above, the long trip was absolutely worth it.

  3. Glad to hear you had such a great time on your trip. That photography exhibit looks amazing. I wasn’t familiar with the photographer’s name but I know I’ve seen his work before.

  4. What a wonderful exhibition! Glad you got to go, even it the travel time was longer than normal.

I never post on IG (or any social media, really) but I don’t know why they feel the need to become a clone of another platform. It seems people have always loved IG for what it offered, so why change?

  5. That exhibit is incredible Sophie! I’m going to google Steve McCurry and try to find more. I’m not on any social media sites including Instagram, but I’m able to watch and enjoy your videos even though I can’t comment on them. It’s too bad that Instagram is choosing to copy another.

    1. Kim I hope you’ll love his photos! He is from New York 😉

  6. McCurry is a fabulous portrait photographer .
I here you feeling burned out on writing reviews, I’ve been struggling with it a lot lately

Wishing you a great reading week

  7. It’s a shame what’s happening when each social media platform is becoming less unique and more uniform. I left instagram long ago, but that’s still disappointing!

    1. Agreed Mogsy!

Nice that you got to enjoy your time out to Antwerp! The pictures are very interesting.

I just started on Instagram and I’m horrible about doing stories so don’t get me started on Reels! I just like my square photos, like you!

  9. Antwerp sounds nice. Oh, I recognize that picture of the Afghan girl.

Review slumps are tough although for me it’s more of a reading slump. 🙁

  10. I’m glad you had a nice vacation and were able to read some books.

  11. I’m glad you got to go see some beautiful art!! That is awesome! How is everything after the flooding? The footage was just so tragic I hope everyone is beginning the long recovery process!

    1. Thank you Samantha!

  12. I watched your reel this morning, and I hate the way the different social media platforms are encroaching on each other’s niche. I don’t post much to IG, but I enjoy seeing the pictures. Glad the universe was on your side and graced you with good weather for your outing. It’s always wonderful when things work out like that.

    1. It seems that Fate is always on my side when I have planned outside activities Sam! I intend to keep it that way LOL

    2. I’m glad you had fun on your trip! I love those photos. Hope you have a good week Sophie

      1. Thank you Tammy!

  13. Sisters of the Resistance sounds very interesting. It sounds like you and your father had a close relationship. Blessings and comfort for you as you remember him.

    1. Thank you for your kind words!

  14. Ooo I would’ve loved to tag along with you to the Steve McCurry’s exhibition! No pictures of the Antwerp station??? No worries, I Googled it and my jaw is on the floor. Truly gorgeous.

Shout out to Antwerp, woop woop! Again, I’m so glad you enjoyed the exhibit. I really loved it myself too. And I love that your love our train station. I can often be found at the Starbucks there
